“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
- Hebrews 13:5 –
When I was younger man established in my career I wanted to buy so many things that caught my eyes: big boats, small boats, shot guns and hand guns of every caliber, VCRs, and any damn thing associated with the Apollo space program. Do you know how much of that stuff I have now? Three guns and a canoe! This is because stuff doesn’t make you happy and more importantly the more sh!t you buy the more you need to store it, take care of it, then get rid of it.
If I would have just followed the scripture from the beginning of this chapter I would have been better off. I have instilled this value in my children as they have gotten older and they have to deal with something I never did…one-click online shopping sent to their door within two-day. Worse of all the Sh!t is made in factories that I have hard time determining if they are following the scripture cited in Chapter 11 about not polluting.
So let me make this easier for all you young buck out there who see a shinny thing and think they want it. Remove your saved credit card from your favorite online shopping website and sleep on the purchase for two days. If you really need that new tent with that new fabric you will be sure to get it after waiting two days. If you really need that new truck well I would recommend you tell your wife first and then sleep on that for a good two week. Otherwise you will be like me spending your precise weekend going through your damn garage and basement then loading stuff in the back of your truck and finding some place to donate it so you you can feel good that you wasted the money in the first place.
