The 1950s were the greatest time in American history! This was when men-were-men, you could smoke where ever you wanted to, and a man could take care of his family one salary. Not to mention the creation Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways that allowed us to enjoy the open road. I can still remember when my father would come home after work everyday like clockwork. He would greet my mother, take off his tie, and sit in his favorite chair after making himself something to “lubricate his spirit.” He often spoke of all the great things the president was doing and how many people were back to work.
However as the liberal countercultural movements of the 1960’s faded the hippies found a way to effect radical change from within. They wanted to destabilize use from within and the best way to do this was to promote lower corporate tax rate for the liberal tech companies they were building in in the 1980’s.
As we all agreed that the 1950s were the most prosperous time in American history we can see when we look at the data from the era that American Corporation were paying close to a 50% effective tax rate. However much like in Chapter 4 the liberal could not allow the government to have their money. They wanted to ensure that the government would not work at a surplus and therefore add a destabilizing force to the core of our democracy. We can see that the liberals achieved their goal and have instituted a roughly 20% effective tax rate. This ensures that we have to choose between national defense and upkeep on that beautiful Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highway
